Welcome to the Mill Pond Grade 5 Concert Band Instrumental Program
The 5th grade band program is open to all grade 5 students who have successfully completed the 4th grade Petting Zoo activity
which takes place in late May or June. This is an opportunity for students to try out and physically "test drive" each of the brass, woodwind and percussion family instruments that are available as part of the Westborough Public Schools Fine Arts instrumental program.
Instrument recommendations are then made to students and parents based on your child's strengths on Woodwinds, Brass and Percussion instruments.
Instrumental lessons
Students who participate in the Mill Pond 5th grade band program receive one FREE 42 minute lesson per week.
These lessons are "pull-out type" instructional lessons, which means they take place during academic class time.
The lesson groups rotate every 5 weeks, so that the student will only miss the same academic class once every 5 weeks. In the event that a student is requested to participate in a special services class such as: (Speech, Math Olympiad, Math plus, Language, or Reading), he or she may need to make a "choice" as to which 5th grade musical performing groups they will choose to participate in.
Concert Band meets once per week, during activity period (no class time is missed) the band performs several times per year.
